In order to guarantee that the Court Challenges Program is able to make its funding decisions independently, the Government of Canada funds the CCP through a Contribution Agreement with the University of Ottawa. In return, the University of Ottawa provides the administrative infrastructure that the CCP needs to operate effectively. The Management Committee of the CCP is responsible, on behalf of the University of Ottawa, for ensuring that the CCP achieves its objectives in accordance with the Contribution Agreement.

To that end, the University of Ottawa has created a Management Committee to ensure the effective and accountable administration of the Court Challenges Program.

Given that the Management Committee is concerned solely with the proper administration of the CCP, and given the strict requirements of confidentiality and professional privilege associated with the case work of the CCP, members of the Management Committee are not privy to the identity of any funding applicant or recipient.

The current members of the Management Committee are :

  • Jacques Frémont, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ottawa – Chair of the Committee

  • Martine Lagacé, Associate Vice-President, Research

  • Lynn Rivard, Chief Administrative Officer, Faculty of Arts

  • Jérémie Séror, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Full Professor – ex officio member

  • Elena Valenzuela, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Director of the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute (OLBI) – ex officio member

  • Marika Giles Samson, Director, CCP – ex officio member

  • Richard Clément, Emeritus Professor, Faculty of Social Sciences
