The objective of the Court Challenges Program (the “CCP”) is to provide financial support to Canadians to bring before the courts test cases of national significance that aim to clarify and assert certain constitutional and quasi-constitutional official language rights and human rights.
The Department of Canadian Heritage, in collaboration with the Department of Justice, is reinstating and modernizing the Court Challenges Program and has chosen the University of Ottawa as the independent organization responsible for implementing and managing the new CCP. The CCP is an administrative unit integrated within the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute (OLBI) of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ottawa.
Program objectives are:
To provide financial support to Canadians to access the courts for the litigation of test cases of national significance; and
To help assert and clarify certain constitutional and quasi-constitutional official language rights and human rights in Canada.
